Elk hunting is a favorite hobby for many people in the state of Idaho. The Diamond Creek unit (76) is one of the state's most popular places to archery-hunt elk.
A new policy set by the Idaho Fish and Game may make it difficult to hunt in Diamond Creek this year.
The new policy outlines the following:
- Elk tags are capped at 1,817.
- 1,017 go to residents.
- 800 go to nonresidents.
Elk in Diamond Creek will benefit greatly from this policy, but, with nearly half of the limited tags being reserved for out-of-state hunters, resident hunters feel they're getting the short end of the stick.
I believe there's a solution to this problem that will please the people and help the elk involved.
